Don't expect too much in the beginning, otherwise you will get discouraged when you don't see the results that you expected. I can tell you that you will most certainly be more sore than you are used to feeling with your regular workouts. To help combat this try a caffeinated drink 20-30 minutes before you work-out. Everyone is different and will progress at different levels. Work hard, safe and you should get as much as you put into it.

Initial gains are really specific to the person. Some people make massive gains(putting on 80-100 lbs on each lift within 3 months). Then there are those who just put on 25-50 per lift. When i started powerlifting 3 years ago I put on 110 lbs on my deadlift, 100 lbs on my squat, and 50 lbs on my bench in about 4 months. So, you will make some decent progress starting out. Newbie gains are nice, but after they are over with you have to bust your a$$ just to gain 10-25 lbs on a lift. It sucks but it is very rewarding when you do PR, powerlifting is a great sport, it is very addicting, if you are a meathead you will love it.
